It's hard to explain.

The "anchor" and entry hole explanation is why Richard and Ben etc were able to travel back and forth, as they knew the specific bearing to get to the island. The island was steady then, only moving it through time, seems to have made it go beserk and flip back and forth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-77926985868202057732009-01-28T14:17:00.000-08:002009-01-28T14:17:00.000-08:00Awesome recap! My theory on why everyone is "having...Awesome recap!
My theory on why everyone is "having a cow" over getting the Oceanic 6 back is that (wait for it) they were never supposed to leave.
I know it's been said (by Ben, Locke) that they weren't supposed to leave, but here is my reasoning:
1). Desmond sees that Charlie dies in the future.
2). Desmond decides to prevent it but eventually realizes its pointless.
3). However, Charlie lives long enough to swim down and turn off the signal blocker in the Looking Glass.
4). Jack makes contact with the freighter and we know how it goes from there.

My point is, if Desmond had not saved Charlie the first (or second or third) time, the chain of events that caused the O6 to leave the island never would have happened.

Now we are in a situation where no one knows whats going to happen because the universe is trying to do a massive course correction and everything is getting thrown out of whack.

That was a long explanation, just my two cents!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-17238926909600901652009-01-27T04:45:00.000-08:002009-01-27T04:45:00.000-08:00Sorry to leave this as anonymous, my name is Brian...Sorry to leave this as anonymous, my name is Brian, I just didn't feel like going through all the steps for the other options.

Anyway, I don't think they've messed up their time travel rules, in fact I think you've already figured out why Hawking is freaking about the O6, you just didn't know it yet.

Desmond.

That's right, the rules don't apply to him. He can manipulate the future like no one else. What did he change? Charlie's death. If Charlie had died in that lightning strike, he wouldn't have been in the looking glass. Remember the musical lock, would anyone else have been able to turn that off?

Sure Naomi was already on the island, but the boat's communications wouldn't have worked. I think the reason the O6 left even though they "weren't supposed" to is because Desmond screwed up the future. I bet Mrs. Hawking is going to be mighty miffed at him.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-40761783899792238862009-01-26T16:31:00.000-08:002009-01-26T16:31:00.000-08:00Fishbiscuit, I love how you pointed out so many po...Fishbiscuit, I love how you pointed out so many possibilities related to the time travel element, it feels like I got a good education on that here and as much as I needed to know about it too! I appreciate your obviously honest take on how you see the show too, questioning those parts that don't come across as well as others and praising the parts that do. I couldn't agree more about Sawyer - he provided the most human emotions of all the characters given the circumstances they've all been through. My heart really went out to him in that scene with Daniel at the hatch.

I took the following words as a good sum up of the overall thought time travel left us with (well, my feeling on it anyway):

"If everything course corrects, if everything happens as it happened and there's no possibility of interference, why is Mrs. Hawking having such a cow over the possibility that the O6 won't all go back? Unless that Rule is not true, it doesn't seem like human intervention is required here." It almost seems like the time travel aspect has gotten so complicated that maybe the writers aren't even keeping up with it!

Looking forward to your take on the show as the season unfolds.

~MidnightAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-13996588869643590122009-01-25T15:30:00.000-08:002009-01-25T15:30:00.000-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08695748758977338601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-48799000414329246952009-01-25T15:29:00.000-08:002009-01-25T15:29:00.000-08:00Not only are your recaps entertaining but they als...Not only are your recaps entertaining but they also make me think! I also saw a lack of emotion in these two episodes. I'm glad they really furthered the plot and that everything seems to be falling into place (I've always been a fan of the sci-fi side of the show) but I noticed a lack of heart. The only heartfelt scenes seemed to be from Sawyer, and then Hurley, when he told his mother the truth. I thought both Hurley and Sawyer were sincere, but other then that, there wasn't much emotion in the two hours. Anyway, I loved your review as always. I think you're one of the best reviewers of LOST. You don't get too cynical or sarcastic, you don't spend to much time cracking jokes, but at the same time you don't get carried away with absurd and convoluted theories about the mythology in the show. He stepped on something and Kate had to pull it out of his foot. It may not mean anything but as we know, nothing in LOST is coincidental. Also, did anyone see the new promo that aired during Grey's Anatomy Thursday night. Please tell me that I was hallucinating as badly as Jack when I thought I saw Kate kiss him. I so hope that was a flash back.sheapaulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11101017405766859160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-55454599310340121372009-01-25T09:04:00.000-08:002009-01-25T09:04:00.000-08:00If that makes you feel any better, I also felt "he...If that makes you feel any better, I also felt "heart" was missing from these episodes. I'm on this ride for the characters and I'm not feeling very comfortable with the possibility that character depth may become secondary to give space to the sci-fi freaky stuff. But I have faith the writers will try and balance the two.

Other than that, I found it absolutely brilliant that you remembered Locke's pain leg the first time he found the plane with Boone! Maybe the shot was the reason? And the whole Kid-Big-Locke and the compass was very right on the spot as well!

Keep recapping or all of us will be missing some important Lost details. ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3542720484561493051.post-67854432769523491592009-01-25T00:22:00.000-08:002009-01-25T00:22:00.000-08:00Loved it, Fish! Funny that it has morphed into the rules/laws for time travel. Didn't see that coming, nice catch. A compass was another option and it shows up in this episode as well, as does the knife young Locke actually chose. The fact that Richard gives it to him and Locke fails to recognize it is interesting.

I am also wondering if the 70 hours they have to return has anything to do with how long they (who ever they are) can keep Locke in the state he is in....the shout out to Expose also makes me think that episode may have been more important than we thought -- if only for the buried alive after being bitten by coma inducing spiders part. Maybe there is only a 70 hours window in which to return Locke to the Island or he is dead as in DEAD, rather than dead as in reversible dead.

I enjoy the pictures; they break up and highlight the points made. I also agree some of the heart was missing but I think these episodes set the stage and put the characters in place for S5; so I am expecting a lot more emotional context in the next few episodes.
